“God writes the Gospel not in the Bible alone, but also on trees, and in the flowers and clouds and stars.”

Martin Luther

But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
    or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
    or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
    and the breath of all mankind.”

Job 12:7-10

Christian Quotes: Martin Luther King Jr.

“If you can’t fly, then run, If you can’t run, then walk, If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.” –Martin Luther King Jr.

 “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14

Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”

Romans 12:19

In my work as a substitute teacher, I sometimes end up in Kindergarten rooms. Lots of things about that age group are fun, but all the tattling between students about poking, pushing, or unkind words can drive me crazy! It occurred to me today, though, that in their own way each of those kids are looking for justice for some perceived wrong that was done to them. And I realized that when I feel wronged, I can end up behaving the same way as my young friends. But I’ve found that seeking my own vengence, either by confrontation or complaining, never really satisfies – it can actually do more damage. Thankfully, God is willing to hear about all my hurts and to stand up for me. His justice will bring much better results than mine ever could.

Question To Ponder:  What’s your response when you’ve been wronged? Do you try to get justice for yourself, or do you trust God to take care of it for you?

Today’s Worship Walk – Thursday

I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 6:35

How amazing is it that the Son of God promises to not only satisfy me, but fill me up to overflowing? Not with literal food and water, as I thought for a while, but with the fruit of the Spirit. When I give Him my worship, He pours out love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control to nourish my soul. And I can ask Him for that every day – I can always be refilled!

Today’s Worship Walk – Wednesday

“…as far as the east is from the west,
    so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children,
    so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him…

Psalm 103:12-13

It’s good to be aware of our behavior and to feel badly when we sin. But I can easily get caught up in self-condemnation, which never leads to lasting change. And when I take this view, I’m forgetting what God has promised to do. Not only does He forgive me when I ask, but separates the sin from me completely. That is both a comfort and an inspiration to turn toward better choices.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Ephesians 2:10

If you ever feel unimportant or wonder if God really has a plan for your life, this is a great verse to meditate on. When I read it, I always I imagine God as a master Craftsman, creating each of us deliberately, exactly how He wants us.  And He has a purpose in mind for everyone – to use our gifts to help build His kingdom.

God desires our worship. But what does that mean?

Today’s Worship Walk – Monday

“On my bed I remember you;
    I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
    I sing in the shadow of your wings.
 I cling to you;
    your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:6-8

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, either from discomfort or stress. Whatever the cause, once I’m awake it’s hard to keep my mind from revving up. All sorts of wonderings and worries can fill my mind, and before I know it I’m lying on my bed having an anxiety fit at 2:00 am. Thankfully, King David offers a different approach to those restless kind of nights. Deciding to think about God in those dark pre-dawn hours has led to some intimate times of prayer and praise.

Question To Ponder:  Do you ever find yourself awake when you’d rather be sleeping? Those stretches of time can seem endless! If you invite God to join you, He’ll bring a calm quietness to your night.

“God does not give us everything we want, but He does fulfill His promises, leading us along the best and straightest paths to Himself.” –Dietrich Bonhoeffer

O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes; Make Your way straight before me.”                                                                                                            Psalm 5:8

They arose early in the morning and worshipped before the Lord.”     1 Samuel 1:19

This morning I woke up with a praise song already playing in my head – what a sweet way to start my day! That doesn’t always happen, but I’ve been deliberately trying to turn my thoughts to God as soon as I wake up. Sometimes I’ll start with thanking Him for protecting us while we sleep. Other times, I’ll start naming His attributes: “You are ______”. I’m not perfect at it. But when I make the choice to praise first, my mind ends up focused more on God than me, on His works than mine. And my attitude gets set right before my feet hit the floor.

Question To Ponder: Do you begin your day thinking about God? It’s not easy when your still sleepy, but try lifting up at least one thanks or praise just as you wake up.
