“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
What a promise the Lord is giving to us believers!
Notice, though, that He doesn’t say there will be no trouble in our lives. I used to read it that way, so I was disappointed whenever challenges came up. No, what God promises is His presence, His protection and His provision in the midst of those challenges.
Two ideas help me cling to the promise of this passage:
– Continuing to acknowledge God, no matter what is in front of me (v.14)
– Keeping a longer view of the situation, knowing it will change in His timing (v.16)
God always honors a heart that’s turned to Him, as He says here with “long life”, and “salvation.” I can’t imagine getting through my days without those, without Him.
