Today’s Worship Walk: Proverbs 16:3

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Proverbs 16:3

One of the hardest changes for me to make as a Christian has been to include God in on my planning. I have always been pretty independent, and so it’s natural for me to go ahead and decide what I’ll be doing next. I make my lists and plot out my steps, getting as specific as I can, especially about naming my goal. Then, I’ll check in with God about it. Or worse, I’ll touch base with Him after I’ve started.

I sure had it backwards! Committing my way means seeking Him out not just to bless my own will, but to show me His. It means asking Him whether what I want is truly best for me – and if not, then finding out what He wants for me. Then, instead of striking out on my own, I need to wait until He reveals the steps I should take.

You can see how that would be a challenge for someone who’s wired like I am. But experience has shown me that trusting God with the desires of my heart always leads me through a more joyful process and much sweeter end goal.
