“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
2 Peter 3:9
I’ve been doing a Bible read-through plan online. Suffice it to say I will not be finished according to their timetable, but I’m glad to be taking the journey. There’s no better way to see how so many threads of God’s truth are woven into both the Old and New Testaments.
This verse highlights one of those truths, namely that God is patient. As I read Peter’s words, I can’t help but think about the testimonies Moses and Isaiah gave about God’s long-suffering with the Israelite nation centuries earlier. It’s also easy to make the same observation about His grace for me.
Because I don’t know about you, but in my experience growing more like the Lord is not a straight shot upwards. It’s a long path that often zig-zags – I’ve even walked backwards at times. From what I see, others have gone through that over the years, and like me are amazed by and grateful for God’s persevering love!
“Nothing can separate, even if I ran away, Your love never fails
I know I still make mistakes, but You have new mercies for me every day
Your love never fails”
(from Your Love Never Fails, by Skinner/Mcclarney)
