“The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
and with my song I praise him.”
I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how important it is to put all my trust in God. And it’s becoming clear that I’ve been trying to sneak by with giving Him some, or maybe most of it on a good day. That’s not enough. David’s writing reveals a man who lived a life of trust.
This passage is an important reminder to me about a couple of truths about trust: it is our decision (God will never force us to have faith) and it leads to provision (God is always faithful to take care of His people). David’s trust brought him the double blessing of peace and a heart brimming with worship.
Those blessings are available to every believer, but they only come when we let go of trying to control, of fear that God won’t come through, or of a stubborn independent streak. I’ve been guilty of all three on occasion, and so have missed out on a lot of peace along the way!
