“This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says:
‘In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength,
but you would have none of it.’ “
Isaiah 30:15
When I read this verse, I think two things: First, how sad it is that God’s people missed out on such a sweet promise; Second, how often I do the same thing.
Many times, God’s way of saving and growing us up has seemed too passive on my end. So I’m supposed to just let God do all the work? Well, yes, actually. But I’m wrong if I believe our part is to simply ‘wait around’ for Him. Because even in the waiting, we are to be active and expectant.
God offers us the gifts of salvation and strength, in His timing and His way. The four qualities He mentions in Isaiah hint at His process.
Repentance – seeking God’s forgiveness and leading
Rest – letting God change me instead of trying to fix myself
Quietness – finding a calmness in God’s presence
Trust – belief in God’s provision and grace
Like the Israelites, my challenge is to acknowledge His lordship. For, it’s in the surrender where I’ll find peace.
